The common ways of "healthy eating" and "dieting" miss the mark. Most people believe they know what a healthy diet is even if they don't necessarily follow one. Ask around, and you will receive plenty of misguided conventional wisom, such as: "Oatmeal is good for the heart"; "Eat a good breakfast of cereal with skim milk and orange juice for more energy"; "You should have a balanced lunch and dinner with protein, starch, and vegetables"; "Steamed vegetables are a great way to get vitamins." The list of common advice goes on.

Some believe that a healthy diet means cutting out carbohydrates and focusing on high-protein animal products and protein bars. Others believe that a vegetarian diet high in soy products is the ideal diet. With so many conflicting messages, it can seem impossible to know what to eat. However, the good news is that there is in fact a reliable way to measure the ideal diet for humankind. It's called Natural Law. Natural Law governs the natural world, harking back to our origins. Natural Law, when adhered to, reveals itself in the illustrious beauty of a garden that gets the sunlight and rain that it needs to grow. However, Natural Law is also revealed in a polluted stream that poisons the trees and land around it. When we live according to Natural Law, we thrive. When we ignore Natural Law and eat according to other principles, as we do with the modern mainstream diet, we become sick.

Consider for just a moment what the term "healthy" has come to mean in Western culture: the absence of apparent signs of illness. Unless we are sick, we are considered healthy. Never have there been so many pharmaceutical drugs on the market--or so many diets dispensing promises for a beautiful body. Yet at the same time, never before has our culture complained of so many ailments or suffered more from obesity and the emotional and physical effects of this disease.

We accept aging to be a degenerative state during which we will likely need one or more pharmaceutical drugs. We anticipate that our vitality and appearance will wane significantly as we age. We even expect that each decade will bring with it another five to ten pounds of weight gain due to an inevitably slowing metabolism. This attitude toward modern medicine extends to our very own children: We do not question a doctor's opinion or recommendation for medication when he or she categorizes our child as "hyperactive" or "chemically imbalanced." Rather, we accept the doctor's professional opinion without ever considering that the sugary, processed foods in our child's diet could be to blame for such a condition to begin with, and that a natural diet could correct it.

Now consider how the dictionary defines "health": "The condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit; freedom from physical disease or pain; a flourishing condition." Health implies strength and vigor. This dictionary offers synonyms such as "robust," "prosperous," "flourishing," "sound," "full of strength and vigor." We Americans live in the richest nation on the planet. We have the best doctors, the most medicines, and the leading pharmaceutical researchers. And yet fatal illnesses, obesity, and eating disorders are on the rise every year. To make matters worse, our understanding of what is healthy to put into our bodies is so far removed from true health that our reflex is to turn to pharmaceuticals and fad diets to try to silence our symptoms instead of changing the single most powerful influence on our health: our diet.

Ours is a culture that aches to be young and beautiful. We put the highest value on image, celebrity, and physical perfection. We have not only adopted but also encourage dieting, cosmetic surgery, and other artificial methods of physical enhancement as a way of life. We strive for beauty, yet our approach to attaining this perfect image is perverse. We look for hope in a jar, miracles in pills. One glance at the extraordinary beauty in the natural world should tell us that we are approaching beauty from an utterly absurd place. Where is beauty most abundantly found? In nature, of course. What could be more perfect than wildflowers in a field or more enticing than the organic fruit fresh and vegetables from the garden? If we want to look and feel as beautiful and vibrant as the natural world that we admire, we need to eat as we were naturally meant to eat--at least most of the time.

The artificial, commercially driven world of pharmaceuticals and processed foods will never make you lean and beautiful. In fact, these unnatural substances will do exactly the opposite; they will accelerate aging and steal your life force.

In my book, The Raw Food Detox Diet, you will learn how to tap into your natural youth and beauty using nothing more complicated than the very foods you put into your mouth. You will learn how easy it can be to lose your excess weight, heal uncomfortable symptoms that you may have endured your entire life, and overcome the obstacles that keep you from looking and feeling amazing in your body.

Together we will create your new health destiny, filled with renewed youth and vitality. I am honored to take you on this journey.
