Aim to take in 64 – 120 ounces of juice in a day, depending on your appetite and the demands of your schedule.
Green Juice
- Green juice should make up at least 50% of your daily juice intake.
- It’s okay to add an apple if you’re already doing that in your daily juice.
- Wheatgrass can be included if desired, but it’s not required.
Fruit Juice
- All sweet fruit juice needs to be diluted, with either water or greens. Orange juice mixed with grapefruit is ok as is.
- Wait until day 2 or 3 of the fast to begin including fruit in your juice. You want to be sure there is no food left in your intestines for the fruit juice to hit and start fermenting.
- While fruits in our juice is normally discouraged, it’s encouraged to include while fasting for a longer period of time because it helps the brain function, and keeps your energy up.
Okay to Consume
- Organic herbal teas can be consumed frequently throughout the day, but caffeinated teas should be avoided.
- If you are a regular coffee or caffeinated tea drinker, it’s okay to include the first day or two of the fast, but only as a crutch to get you through.
- Organic coconut water can be consumed; about 1 coconut or 16 ounces per day.
- Vegetable broth should ideally be homemade; about 16 ounces per day.
- Spices can be added to your juices and can really help keep your palette satisfied.
Do not consume
- Coconut milk – this has fiber that will trigger digestion and break the fast.
- Almond milk – the fat will trigger digestion. However, it can be consumed in small quantities towards the end of the fast if you’re experiencing shakiness or very strong detox symptoms.
- Alcohol is much too harsh on the system and stomach lining to consume during a fast. A small glass of organic wine can be consumed on day 1 of the fast as a crutch, but this is highly discouraged.
Elimination methods
- Colon-cleansing is very necessary for a successful fast. It will drastically decrease or eliminate any detox symptoms.
- Enemas are a great tool. You can get by with only enemas if you don’t have access to colonics. Enemas can be administered 1 – 2x / day.
- Colonics are highly encouraged as they remove the most waste matter; we recommend at least 2 colonics for the duration of the fast, but you can do more as needed.
- Dry-brushing and tongue-scraping are great ways to remove waste that has come out of the skin or tongue.
Supplements
- Supplements can be taken during the fast if desired, but are not required.
- Fasting is a great time for taking probiotics as they will penetrate much deeper.
- Any of our recommended supplements can be taken while fasting, but try to avoid taking too many large capsules.
Breaking the fast
- “soft break” – A blended meal of lots of spinach, an avocado, some sprouts, and wild blueberries with water or coconut water. Another great option in Natalia’s classic Pumpkin Pie in a Bowl with a bunch of spinach blended with in.
- “clean break” – A simple leafy green salad with avocado and tomatoes dressed with lemon juice and stevia. Followed by, a bowl of clean steamed vegetables and optionally, a baked sweet potato.
- “fruit break” (for advanced cleansers only) – Choose berries or a some winter fruits such as grapefruit, oranges, apples, and pears. No more than 1 (or 2 small) apples or pears, with 2-3 grapefruits, and 1-2 oranges.
