Don’t Need It. Don’t Want It. Don’t Gotta Have It.

I wish I could say it’s good to be back in the big, bad apple–my home for the past 18 years, but, in truth, re-entry into New York City after two months of surf, sand, and sun in a state of clear, connected consciousness for two and a half months has been a disturbing experience. There’s nothing like being away from all the madness to see it for what it is — a relentless assault of images — subliminal and overt — directing all receptive minds and resources toward a parade of unnecessary trends, products, and social directives. From this lucid vantage point, I see it as an obvious form of mind-control and group madness. Ask me next week and I might be sucked back in just enough to excuse it and accept it as I have historically done, so I didn’t want to wait to express this.

The world of merchandizing and image-mongering is extreme. For decades of living in LA and NYC, it had me in its clutches. I bought in, sold my soul, pursued and purchased as directed, like a marionette. Over the last ten years of deep cellular cleansing, my ability to see through the programming increased significantly, but today it is so clear that I simply can’t find the purpose in any of it or support it at all anymore. Life cannot grow through concrete. Dead indoor air, chlorinated water, processed food, greedy pursuits, and the like cannot support life.

I have spoken several times about the trajectory of mutation–but to reiterate, it grows into disfigured rogue form over time as the mutation grows more pronounced. Physical, psychological, mental and emotional imbalances begin with lesser symptoms and bit by bit, those symptoms grow more pronounced, more acute as their cause goes uncorrected. If corrections are not made to the trajectory and the organism fails to be restored, the future generations of both the cells within that organism and the generations of that organism’s offspring (remember we always look at an organism holographically, appreciating the micro- and macro-cosmic effects) will carry more dire mutations. This is how we read the Universal Laws of Life and can thereby predict the outcomes of all causes. In the case of our civilization’s life-deteriorating trajectories, we have received countless warning signs of where it is headed (too many warning signs to mention here, but think autism, schizophrenia, infertility, depression, Parkinson’s, etc.). So we can predict that the next generations are going to greater expressions of these symptoms. If you conjured up images of zombie-like monsters depicted in movies like 21 Days Later,Night of the Living Dead, and Shawn of the Dead, you would be spot-on.

Think that might be a stretch? It turns out that right on 23rd Street and Park Avenue, where my husband’s offices are, there are a number of people exhibiting zombie-like symptoms. My husband and his colleague were telling me about it last night. There are many of them–pharma-addicts, a.k.a. pharmaceutical junkies. Apparently, they freeze. That’s right. They actually freeze in place–anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours or more–while clutching a cup or making a gesture or just sitting or standing, often with their head dropped down. Pharmaceutical drugs, my friends. If this is what extra dosages do, do you think small “recommended” doses are safe? Is our way of life a highway to a world of human zombies? How about that expression on your ten-year-old’s face while watching TV programs and ads? Is truth not only stranger than fiction but on par with horror? Is life mimicking horror, or horror mimicking life?

(Note: as I’m reading this to Ana, she nods and tells me she has seen them too. Surely, this is not a stand-alone event. Perhaps it’s just the proximity to a big-name drugstore.) Apparently the dealers are pretty easy to spot. Are pharma-drug ringleaders modern-day drug dealers? What’s more, the squirrels are going the way of the snake pit too. Apparently, urban squirrels in many of the local parks are jumping on people with packaged foods and drinks. They too have become addicted to the intensely addictive substances in our foods and are insistent upon getting their fix!

Everyone knows New Yorkers are the trendsetters. If this is any indication of what’s to come and what’s brewing, is it really the trajectory we want to be on? And let’s face it, we’re in it together. Separation consciousness is an illusion. Life is a great web. Parts disconnected from the vines of life (carrying vitality from the great interconnected organism of planetary life) cannot live for long. They wither or mutate, or both. If these people become zombies, cleansers are affected too! Do you think their choices do not impact you? Do you think their refuse does not enter the water supply or that animals that become addicted to the substances they ingest from our garbage don’t make them dangerous to you? Small consolation, but at least it sounds like you’re safer carrying around apples than chips!

Sure, you may be cleansing, but what is your teenager sneaking from the local drugstore? Do you think there are no pharma-junkie dealers in your neck of the woods? Can you be sure they or their clients won’t freeze while going 65 mph on the highway? We are all connected. Awareness followed by conscious change is the only way out. There is a great southern African philosophy called Ubuntu that essentially states, “I am who I am because of who we all are.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu offered this definition: A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.

Are we losing our Ubuntu? Are we choosing greed and dead things over connection and living things?

Going through piles of mail, I came across several catalogs. One popular brand screamed from the cover: “You Need It. You Want It. You’ve Gotta Have It!” As I tossed it into the recycling bin, I thought, No, I don’t need it. I don’t want it and I don’t gotta have it.

The lyrics of this great Elton John song, “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters,” nicely echoes my sentiments about my long-beloved city:

Until you’ve seen this trash can dream come true
You stand at the edge while people run you through
And I thank the lord there’s people out there like you
I thank the lord there’s people out there like you

Subways no way for a good man to go down
Rich man can ride and the hobo he can drown
And I thank the lord for the people I have found
I thank the lord for the people I have found

While Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Sons of bankers, sons of lawyers
Turn around and say good morning to the night
For unless they see the sky
But they can’t and that is why
They know not if it’s dark outside or light

And Happy New Year to all my Jewish friends!

Love,
Natalia

P.S. I thank the Lord that there are people out there like you.

Electric Boogie Woogie: The Fountain of Youth, Part One

We cannot hope to know how to care for our bodies if we don’t know what we are made of and what actually sustains our being. I want to introduce a new but entirely scientifically sound and accurate concept about our physicality. I invite students of quantum physics, medicine, and lay people to sit with the incredible simplicity of this physical model. I call it The Theory of the Electric Human. When I say this is “new” I mean that it is new to modern man. To the ancient mystery school teachers and great minds like Hippocrates and Pythagoras, this was a solid, basic concept. It’s time we emerge from the dark ages of human understanding and see the body as it truly is.

THE BASIS OF ELECTRICITY IS POLARITY

Everything in the world of form contains both negative and positive polarities, but gives off either a negative or positive ionic charge based on the number of electrons to protons in its atomic structure. A healthy person’s cells and tissues are made up of negatively charged ionic particles. This makes the human body alkaline. (All life-generating substances in the world of form carry a negative, or alkaline, ionic charge). An ion is simply a particle that is electrically charged, either positively or negatively; meaning an atom, molecule, or group that has lost or gained one or more electrons.

When an atom has more electrons orbiting its nucleus than there are protons in the nucleus, it carries a negative ionic charge; when there are more protons in the nucleus than electrons orbiting the nucleus, the atom or group is said to carry a positive ionic charge. Alright, now that we’re up to speed on basic atomic structure, let’s move on…

Electrons are whirring orbs charged with life force. Much as their name implies, electrons are electronic! When one electron meets up with another electron, they conduct an electric current—or electricity. We often think of electricity existing in electronic gadgets, light bulbs, and lightening, but we don’t usually think of ourselves as walking, talking beings of electronic activity. However, this is what the Life Force Energy is.

When our cells are clean and our subatomic parts are healthy, lots of electrons are passing this vital electric energy from cell to cell. In fact, this is what keeps cells alive. When the subatomics are short of electrons, imbalanced atoms steal electrons from healthy atoms and nullify the electrical potential. You might have heard the term for these imbalanced electrons: they are called free radicals.

Since the body thrives on alkaline substances, which are made up of electron-rich atoms, these electron-devouring free radicals are the opposite of alkaline. They are acidic. They enter the body through all manner of unnatural foods, drinks, and substances—through all the openings in the body, including the mouth, skin, nose, ears, and emotions. Food can be acidic, but so can relationships, jobs, regrets, and the environment.

PURE VITAL ELECTRICAL ENERGY IS SUPREME NOURISHMENT

Our bodies are designed to live off their own electrical energy, supported by alkaline-rich substances. Healthy alkaline cells meet and pulse this vital current through the body. As long as each cell receives the pure force of this vital pulse, the body will stay alive, strong, properly functioning (and, it has been suggested, under perfect circumstances, immortal).

Only the substances that humans are by nature intended to consume can help conduct this electric current: fresh water-rich fruits, vegetables, “living” air and water (“living” meaning electrically pulsating with life force), sunlight, and vital relationships. These substances are highly alkaline and hydrating, for they are grown under solar radiation, which means they have lots of healthy electronic energy. All this makes these substances ideal nourishment. We must finally abandon the myth that calories, dense foods, and vitamins nourish the body. The body is nourished byelectromagnetism from the sun. This is what man is made of; this is what he thrives on. Water is an excellent conductor of electricity, and the human body’s high water content supports conductivity. Thus, hydrating fruits and vegetables serve us best.

A virgin body (one that has not been defiled by modern substances—no one I know) from perfectly clean lineage (one that has consumed only the purest substances—again, no one I know) should, according to this theory, be able to live easily on its own electromagnetism and that which it receives from clean negative-ionically-charged air, water and fresh fruits and leaves (which are almost entirely made up of negative ions, and synthesized sunlight with a bit of cellulose). The clean-celled human was designed to live on his or her own electronic substance with these elements constant regenerative force. The life-sustaining electromagnetic activity was so rich prior to modernization that it was all man needed—in fact, the best thing for man was to live primarily off, this rarified vital air being the most essential and vitalizing (this is where the idea of being breatharian comes from). This, of course, is not the case for modern man, who is highly addicted to the dense foods and chemical substances that he regularly consumes despite his body’s distressed reactions to them (what modern medicine call “symptoms of illness,” blaming age and bad luck).

Unknowingly, modern humans constantly expose their beings to highly acidic, electron-impeding substances through all the physical, emotional, and mental receptor sites. The biochemical makeup of these substances block the conductivity of life force between cells. From this unnatural, defiled state, science determines what is normal. In turn, the conditioned masses cannot see beyond their little programmed world. They follow a professed hierarchy of leaders with wide-eyed awe at their research studies, so-called nutritional discoveries, and medications.

Each research study can only be dubbed “normal” within a corrupted framework. How long should we be able to live? What motivates us? What’s worthy of our time, attention, and praise? What is our normal height and weight? For how many decades should we enjoy a state of excellent heath? What is the natural experience of menopause or childbirth? Such questions cannot be answered in the light of truth if the research studies take the average corrupted human being as their norm. They can only be answered based on the observed norm within the control group. All that can be measured today is what is common, which should not be confused with what is natural.

THE GRAVE EFFECT OF LOST VITAL ELECTRICAL ENERGY

Once the human organism loses this conductivity of pure, vital, self-sustaining force, it looks outside of itself for ways to regain a sense of completeness. Of course, this is a futile endeavor. The further off the trajectory of its truth one veers, the more desperately one reaches for fulfillment in the outside world. This is the beginning of the selfishness that dissolves all trust and fuels all manner of dissonance in our relations with one another. This is the root of seeking success at the expense of others suffering.

Healthy human relationships work like healthy atoms and cells: good feelings conduct good feelings and support groups of all sizes with mutually enriching experiences. It’s a macrocosm of the atomic expression. In our truth we all thrive. It is a mistake to believe that crime, heartache, and war are the natural traits of humanity. They are not. They are the traits of the lower, animalistic state of man. As long as we fail to understand how we really work (on solar electricity), we are doomed to rely on our lower survival instincts: eat or be eaten, seek fulfillment of desire in lust and materialism, follow misguided thoughts and values. The herd mentality makes animals of us—full of lust, greed, rage, gluttony, competition, addiction, and instability. Knowing our true nature and living in harmony with it elevates us.

Once cells are blocked from receiving the electromagnetic current of vital force, those starved cells start to die, just as you would if you did not receive oxygen. New cells spring forth as long as there is adequate life force in the organism, but even that process slows down as the electronic force in the body weakens. This weakness comes not from the number of times you spin around the sun (your age), but by how blocked from the current of vital energy the cells become.

From the moment we step foot into this world, we experience a slow death because of all our modern habits that cut off the electronic current in the body. The way most people live today, it would be more appropriate to refer to our “death spans” rather than our “life spans.” If we want life spans, we must open ourselves up to free-flowing electronic conductivity.

Yes, we can become beings of highly charged electronic energy. All we have to do is intelligently begin to remove the blocks that snuff out this vital conductivity in the body. This requires a smart transition and a courageous attitude that’s not afraid of bucking the old conditions and programs.

This is why Arnold Ehret and Norman Walker emphasize that the root of all illness is constipation. When positively charged ions enter the body in the form of food, drugs, and environmental poisons (including radiation from computers and cell phones), this positively charged substance sticks like a magnet to the negatively charged alkaline substance of the intestinal tissue. This substance that sticks in the tissue snowballs and suffocates electronic conductivity. As the acidic substances continue to enter the organism, filling the intestine, not only will more cells suffer and die off, but the blockage sends the body the message that this organism is becoming unfit. The self-destroying agents are then sent in to break down the organism like flies on a carcass.

NATURE’S RESPONSE TO BLOCKED VITAL ELECTRICAL ENERGY

Life means one thing: change. Either a living organism generates life, unfolding and flourishing like a ripe garden that grows richer with each season, or it is deleterious to life, being decomposed by that which breaks life down. Pests, vultures, bacteria, cockroaches, and rats (the latter two being the most proliferating species on the planet for this reason) are decomposers. They become more durable as their work demands it of them. This is why flu strains, bacteria, and pests have become more impervious to inoculations, pesticides, and antibacterial agents over time.

Blockages in the intestine become blockages throughout the organism (see “Over-consumption + Under-elimination x Time = Accumulation” and “Why Are We Sick? The Vicious Cycle Explained”). Inevitably, the body recognizes this blocked state as life-deteriorating, so the ambassadors of decomposition—namely bacteria, yeast/fungus, and viruses—take hold.

Healthy microbes eventually surrender to these rogue microbes and the body begins the slow breakdown toward death. The body does send warning signals that life-deteriorating actions have been set in motion. If such signs—like ear infections, common colds, headaches, poor bowel function, bad breath, and underarm odors—were heeded and their causes corrected, this destruction could be avoided. But in our culture we have moved so far away from understanding how the body communicates that we have lost this art of healing.

One of the major signs today that must be noted is infertility. Infertility is the alarm bell signaling extinction. Fifteen years ago, menstruation troubles came under the spotlight. This alarm bell (which was suppressed by drugs and hormones) preceded the more dire siren of infertility. Now we have a generation of women of child-bearing age turning to drugs instead of cleansing to reproduce. And what of their offspring?

THE NATURAL RESULT OF CLEAR, FLOWING, VITAL ELECTRICAL ENERGY

When the body is cleared enough to conduct a significantly greater than “normal” amount of this vital force, it experiences dramatic improvements. It’s like suddenly sprouting wings where there were once only fins. Learning to conduct this brilliant vibration is how we step into the light—by becoming an organism of pulsating electrical vitality, the radiant embodiment of heaven on earth.

The results and rate at which we can rekindle our lost electromagnetic state of being is directly related to the extent to which we have poisoned our cells and tissues in our lifetimes, and the extent to which we apply the many rekindling tools available to us. It all comes down to sheer will and determination. There are those who long for nothing more than higher knowledge, and there are those who are not yet ready to venture onto such a rarified road. Many of us know the higher truths, but few of us actually follow them.

So, how do we initiate or accelerate the reconnection with our electronics? We remove the blockages from the decades of dietary error through transition diet (see The Raw Food Detox Diet) and bowel cleansing. We must do it consistently and thoroughly for it to work. Raw vegetable juices, proper food combining, vegetable-centric meals, and regular bowel cleansing (ideally using gravity method colonics; see my listing of recommended gravity colon hydrotherapists) must be implemented with consistency for the awakening and release of old blockages to take place. Don’t have a short memory when cleansing. You cannot cleanse a 30- or 40-year-old body in 3 weeks or even 3 months. In 3 years you will be making solid headway. Let this keep you humble and honest, not discouraged. You will reap immediate results, but all results are relative. After a few months, you might feel far better than you originally did, but remember: what you are capable of is exponentially greater.

But you must do it all, and you must do it consistently, otherwise you are simply not doing it. Just eating more raw food, just having a few colonics, or just juicing won’t work. You need the power of at least 16 to 32 ounces of raw vegetable juice (not blended shakes or powders) every day to coat and awaken the waste with its powerful alkaline charge. You need to rest your body from overeating and poor food combinations that exhaust the system and prevent it from ever reaching the old waste because it is so preoccupied with trying to process the new intake. You need to focus on vegetables (fruits are too clean for most people today, who are too yeasted or too impacted). The modern human is best eating mostly raw and cooked vegetables. I call this vegetable-centric eating. By all means, be super-creative and use lots of delicious herbs, a little organic butter, marinara sauce, sea salt, stevia, garlic, etc. to make these vegetables hearty and mouthwatering. Do this and you’ll be completely satisfied with vegetable-centric eating. Note: this is different from traditional vegetarianism, which includes lots of beans, nuts, grains, and processed soy-based foods.

Once you have the awakening and releasing technique down and working for you to dislodge the big, obvious, structural blockages, you’ll start to feel your subtle energy body. This is your prana, your chi, your vital electrical charge. Here are a few of the many effective tools to help you circulate and increase that charge:

• Rebounding on a mini-trampoline (Reboundaire is a great brand)
• A “chi” machine (The Chi-vitalizer: Allaboutchi.com)
• Body Brushing with a natural bristle body brush
• Gravity colonics
• Deep breathing in fresh country, sea, or mountain air
• Deep stretching (yoga or just plain old stretching is fine—use your intuition to read what needs to be opened to increase your vital electric flow)
• Sun-bathing (no oils or SPF, ideally nude in the sun’s mid-morning rays)
• Plenty of deep sleeping (Your body cannot recharge without this. Rest to the extent to which you tax your body. Without many hours of deep sleep, it will be like an assembly line gone amok with the un-metabolized burdens of past substances and stresses).

See how you feel when you do all these things. Modern humanity tends to overlook the free and obvious because we are conditioned to put our faith in something external, such as scientific discoveries. This stems from the belief that humanity descends from a Stone Age of numb-nuts, and that only with our modern scientific minds and technologies are we finally able to understand our world and make great discoveries. In fact, there was a Golden Age prior to the Dark Age that we are only now emerging from. Step into your own personal Golden Age as soon as you are ready.

When the body is flowing with clean, vital electromagnetic energy, you will have access to the treasure of your being. What I am referring to is the power of your endocrine system, continued in “The Endocrine System: The Fountain of Youth, Part Two.”

On Eating Disorders

A beautiful thing never gives so much pain as does failing to hear and see it.
—Michelangelo

All modern eating is disordered eating. The consumption of processed foods in thoughtless combinations, three meals a day plus snacks, all the grain, flesh, packaged foods and drinks—all of this is grossly unfit for the human body. The FDA guidelines and food pyramids themselves are disordered.

Eating disorders are not the exclusive domain of anorexia, bulimia, and overeating. These “text book” disorders are poorly understood and treated. The common threads that anorexics and bulimics all share are:

1) They are usually of above average intelligence.
2) They are typically (but not always) from high-income households or backgrounds.
3) They are angry about something, usually unconsciously.
4) From an early age, they have picked up from authority figures that they must not say what they really wish to say, because the people who ought to hear it either won’t want to hear it or will harshly refute it.

This last point is extremely important because the voice and the ingestion of food both correspond with the throat—a major energy center in the body, which some of you may know of as the “throat chakra.” The throat chakra becomes imbalanced when personal expression, which is its main raison d’être, is stifled. Keep this in mind as you read on…

When you raise a girl with above average intelligence in the typical fashion, she will naturally pick up on all the paradoxes and hypocrisy of her world (i.e., adults say one thing but do another; adults frequently use terms like “love,” “commitment,” “respect” and “integrity” yet betray those values with their behaviors). She witnesses that, despite all the education, class expectations, climbing of social and corporate ladders, and the amassing of wealth, the adults around her show no signs of true happiness, self-confidence, individuality, or selflessness.

decorative-dressing-table-1385221-m

Subconsciously, the mind of a bright girl stores up all these observations. As society puts her through the “proper young lady” assembly line, she starts to lose touch with her authenticity (and, with it, her keen perception) as she absorbs the customary rules and definitions assigned to her. Her subconscious doesn’t forget, though. It knows that something of great value was taken from her, and this manifests in little things at first: mild discontent, talking back, contempt for her parents—or, on the flipside, an intense desire to please or to be perfect.

She also learns that the way adults do things is not to be questioned or discussed, but blindly accepted. And if she is to be considered a success and gain the much desired approval of her elders, she is meant to fall into line with these customs and live up to their values. Her peers are experiencing the same thing and thus serve to reinforce this message in both spoken and unspoken ways. The girl is left to swallow her confusion day after day.

By this point she feels powerless to change the outside world. But wait! There is still one thing left within her power to dictate—her body. Thus she begins to exert the little control she feels she can over what she does and does not put into her mouth. She either closes off her throat center to defend her boarders (anorexia) or she overeats, feeding herself the love and attention that she craves, and then purging it as a way to express her feelings, violently and furiously, into the only thing that she knows will receive it—the toilet (bulimia). The fact that society worships the ideal of skinny, “sexy” fashion models only reinforces the girl’s behavior.

Anorexia and bulimia are two sides of the same coin. Anorexia is a woman’s self-protective response to defend her borders against that which she perceives to violate her (food becomes symbolic of the society that has stolen her innocence, her clarity and authenticity). Bulimia is a way of stuffing herself numb from the pain of being unheard and hurt by her world, and a violent, angry rejection of what she has been told to accept. When no one will hear her (not even the eating disorder institutions that only uphold the madness of the world that her spirit rejects), she seeks expression and release from her fury in the confined “safe” space of the bathroom. This form of release, of course, becomes her prison. This is how the girl deals with society’s double-edged sword.

Instead of recognizing and treating the true cause of her eating disorder, at the first sign of straying from the norm the authorities label her and send her off to a center where she is forced to swallow more of the same suffocating conformity and violation of her spirit. Within the walls of the center, she is forced to learn what “normal” eating habits are (as if she didn’t already know) and then instructed to model these “good” habits to demonstrate she’s well enough to function in the world again.

Of course, such girls do not actually get better. If they appear to be doing well enough to re-enter the world, it’s only because they’ve suppressed their pain more deeply—because once again they have received the clear message that they will not be heard. At a certain point, they find it easier to numb themselves than to continue to be disappointed.

Overeating disorders are commonly due in part to food addictions that take over once the body has become a full-fledged host to yeasts. When a woman goes through an entire loaf of bread or a bag of cookies or chips, these foods are feeding the yeast in her body, and the yeast keeps sending them out for more. The other part of overeating is the desire to fill a feeling of emptiness with food.

But the most prevalent eating disorder is so common that it passes for normal today. Most girls may not be outright starving themselves or purging, but they are nonetheless suffering enormously with their bodies and dieting. The average girl is infatuated with having “a good body.” This is as common as wearing makeup, and takes root at a younger and younger age. I’ve seen it manifesting as early as the second grade!

It is overlooked as normal for girls to diet all the time now. The reality is that these girls are suffering from the all-consuming focus, time and energy that conventional dieting requires. I have yet to encounter a young woman this year who is not in some way distressed about her body. Speaking as someone who was plagued by this infatuation as a teenager and knows its insidious depths, I can say without hesitation that this phenomenon drives an epidemic of suffering among girls.

The pretty girls, the thin girls, the smart girls, the girls you wouldn’t think even give it a second’s thought, who seem impervious to body image insecurities, all have it and think about it, plan around it, condemn themselves for what they eat, and are generally consumed by it around the clock! Most of the time their parents know and ignore it—either because they have the same issues or have been projecting the importance of being thin onto their daughters and see nothing wrong with it.

Most disturbingly, parents and society contradict their own message by perpetuating a way of eating that is doomed to make girls imbalanced, heavy, moody and generally less than naturally beautiful. This makes no sense at all. You cannot feed your infant baby formula (depriving it of the most important chance of seeding the intestine with good bacteria/flora from mother’s milk), and then proceed to feed a child on mainstream grocery products that accumulate in the body for thirteen years, and then expect her body to utterly defy nature and blossom with gorgeous legs, a perfect midriff and flawless, dewy skin! You sow the seeds of your child’s body every day. You cannot harvest healthy, beautiful fruit in poisonous soil.

Parents, you cannot adhere to the social norms around food and then expect your girls to enjoy a naturally healthy, lean body! This is cruel because your girls don’t understand why they are plagued with their physical imbalances. They feel limited to two decisions: either enter a diet-prison or just be heavy and uncomfortable. Either way is torture!

We are a “Hi, how are you? You look great!” culture. Our social interactions are typically robotic reflex expressions that reinforce that how we look should somehow tell the story of our lives. Well, take off the makeup, the designer clothes, put down the Prada handbag and kick off the Monolos, then let me see how you really are. A façade of drugstore beauty expresses nothing except an effort to keep up socially acceptable appearances.

Some of my clients have reported that when they were practicing the most severe methods of their eating disorders, they received the most effusive acceptance from their family and peers. Imagine how confusing that is!

It’s high time we unveil the reality. If you want your girls to grow into beauties, you have to raise them in harmony with the natural laws—starting from birth by prioritizing breastfeeding on demand, lots of time in your arms to satisfy the love that they will otherwise look for in food, and making the time and effort to stock your kitchen with plant food. Reach for what’s natural and real, not just for convenience. A healthy, beautiful girl does not emerge from years of packaged foods and lack of loving attention!

A Way Out

I have held the hands of many anorexics and bulimics across the threshold back to their authentic, balanced selves using the dietary guidelines in my books—along with a thorough dredging and releasing of the true origin of their anger, what they truly long to express, and their social programming.

As a result, instead of using their throats as weapons of exploding emotion, their throats become pathways for honest and free expression and welcome foods rich in life force. These girls need truth served up in hearty quantities of fresh vegetable juice, raw salads with avocado and baked roots, so they can discover that food can be nourishing and satisfying while restoring them to their naturally beautiful, lean bodies.

In my experience, the most effective way to help cure someone of her eating disorder is to lead her to the following truths:

• She does not have to conform to “normal” ways of eating to be healthy, strong or socially acceptable.
• She can get pleasure and satisfaction from food while feeling light in her body and loving the way she looks. (This is usually the most important factor for women with all levels of food issues.)
• She needs a safe place to dredge up what she really wants to say, and say it again and again until she feels heard by someone who can listen with complete receptivity.
• The adults in her life have just been repeating what they know. Just as you can forgive a first grader for not being able to do calculus, you can forgive a parent or other authority figure for being misguided and unaware.
• Finally, she is not alone.

I try to introduce my young clients (in their late teens and early twenties) to each other. Usually, they take to each other immediately and become great friends who can understand and support each other. More of these young people who are identifying and rejecting the root causes that have led them to their disorders and who are adopting a more enlightened approach need to find each other and live out their highest ideals with each others’ support and companionship. Caring grown-ups should encourage and facilitate this.

Drug and alcohol abuse have similar origins, coming from a desire to numb, consume and escape. Rebellious behavior is a young person’s way of expressing his or her deep dissatisfaction with the adult world. Kids rebel because they want nothing to do with social norms, and yet they sense that their last-ditch efforts to avoid conformity will ultimately fail. Alcohol and drug abuse and eating disorders are all expressions of distrust and disgust with the bill of goods they’ve been sold. When you really think about it, who can blame them?
